My name is Meneka and I’m a self-confessed makeup addict.. Forget growing up to be a single, cat hoarding woman. I’ll be living with all my makeup and you know what? That’s the way I like it. If you hear a news report stating a woman has died after being crushed under a wave of falling makeup in her home, that will most likely be me.

This space – bymeneka.com – is all about trying new things and reflecting on them. As a brown gal, it is incredibly different to find things that suit my skin tone without trying it first – i.e online shopping is a big no no. Here in Australia, there is quite a bit of overlooking of people with darker (and sometimes extremely pale) skin tones. If you walk into MAC and you are brown, you are most likely going to walk out with NC45 because its the “brown people foundation”. Doesn’t matter if you’re actually warm toned. Want to find a nude lipstick? Nope. Sorry. The closest to nude you can get is a mauve-y beige or dark brown.
