Current Favourites (April 2018)

OK I KNOWWW I haven’t posted in a while, but that’s a story for another day because I am ready to get right into my new post: SOME MAKEUP AND SKINCARE THAT HAVE BEEN FAR ABOVE SUB PAR OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I just can’t churn through products fast enough to have monthly favourites/have enough items to constitute a blog post, so I’m just going to write them as a mental list forms that’s so long that I have to write it down.

Some of the products I’m going to be talking about were kindly gifted to me (they’ll have a *) but as always, I’m not obliged to talk about them, I just love ’em so darn muchly.

TATCHA LUMINOUS DEWY SKIN MIST

Look. $70 for 40mL. That’s almost $2 a mL. I get it. But I have never had my skin looking so close to skin before I started using this spray as a setting spray. I also love that I can spritz it on for a no makeup day since it’s core use is as skincare.

If you haven’t heard about this spray, it’s essentially taking the insta-world by storm and I can definitely say it lives up to the hype. As a dry skin-er, my skin craves something that doesn’t make foundation look like it’s clinging on to my skin for dear life. This spray post setting powder/baking just melts away the powder and makes my makeup look like skin.

The only thing I don’t like about this is the price! I use 4-5 sprays every morning and it has almost only 1/3 of my second fave spray (Glam Glow Glowsetter with 110mL for $46) and I’m not looking forward to the day I need to repurchase it! (On the other hand, it doesn’t dry my skin out like other setting sprays eg Urban Decay because it doesn’t have alcohol in it and in the long run I’m better off investing in my skin at this age than trying to fix it later down the track *SIGH* WHY MUST I LIVE THE LIFE OF A QUEEN ON THE BUDGET OF A PLEB).

MURAD AHA/BHA EXFOLIATING CLEANSER

This (and the moisturiser I’m going to talk about next) have single handedly helped my skin over the past 4 months. This cleanser is not only a physical exfoliater (jojoba skin-polishing beads) but a chemical one too (salicylic acid, lactic acid, and glycolic acid). It’s evened out my skin tone and is helping with the texture (i.e getting rid of bumps and patches). A little goes a long way too! And I only use it every second day.

MURAD HYDRODYNAMIC ULTIATE MOISTURISER

The above exfoliating cleanser and this moisturiser are the perfect combo. As you can see, I’ve almost used this moisturiser all up – that never happens! It’s lightweight, not greasy (which lets me put sunscreen over the top) and sits well under makeup. I love that it has kept my skin hydrated throughout the day too!

BOBBI BROWN VITAMIN ENRICHED FACE BASE

Another product I’ve almost used up! A primer that’s hydrating without the oil (shea butter baaby!). Layers beautifully on top of my moisturiser/sunscreen, hydrates my skin, keeps is looking luminous and keeps my foundation looking “not-cakey”.

LANCOME TEINT IDOLE ULTRA WEAR FOUNDATION*

A newer foundation to my collection, the Lancome Teint Idole. It’s a full coverage foundation but it’s quite easy to sheer it back out again. It doesn’t cake up and sits on the skin comfortably. It’s also long-wearing (it’s meant to be 24 hours).

ESTEE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR NUDE WATER FRESH FOUNDATION*

Similar to the infamous Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place foundation – but for drier skin! I don’t even know how to explain the consistency of this. It’s thinner, lighter-weight and lighter in coverage (but buildable) but it’s… refreshing?

LANCOME TEINT IDOLE ULTRA WEAR CAMOUFLAGE CONCEALER*

THE COVERAGE THOUGH. Honestly. One little dot, goes such a long way. It also melds into the skin very nicely and doesn’t exaggerate any lines. It’s also perfect for cut creases because it’s got great opacity!

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS X AMREZY HILIGHTER

You’ve probably seen this beauty all over instagram! This hilighter is a result of a collaboration between major brand Anastasia Beverly Hills and insta-model Amra (@amrezy). It’s a gorgeous gold colour that intensifies with a spritz of Tacha or MAC Fix +.

MECCA COSMETICA ENLIGHTENED POWDER

The perfect soft glow without the glitter chunks. A sweep of this and you’re left with a healthy rose-gold glow. I especially like this with a pink blush!

THE BALM “BALM SPRINGS” BLUSH*

I’m not a blush-wearing gal but I couldn’t go past this earth-rose blush. It suits my darker skin tone and just adds that extra colour I need on a day-to-day basis for work. It’s matte, buildable and blends out well.
